What is Active@Work?

Active@Work is a service to help employers and employees to build a healthy workforce. The service is provided by WLCT, in partnership with Health@Work, who are experts in supporting businesses to achieve the Good Work: Good Health charter.

As well as helping workplaces gain accreditation through the charter, we can provide information and access to a number of local services for your employees, and help them improve their health. It’s been well documented that healthier employees are more productive and have less sickness absence, and encouraging staff to look after themselves boosts morale in the workplace.

'Active@Work – building a healthy workforce' is funded by NHS Ashton, Leigh & Wigan.

Who is Active@Work for?

The programme is for any workplace that is based in the Wigan Borough, which would like to see the benefits of having happy and healthy employees.

Who delivers Active@Work?

The programme is delivered by Wigan Leisure & Culture Trust’s Active Living Team in partnership with a specialist company, Health@Work. We also work closely with lots of service providers such as Lose Weight Feel Great, Stop Smoking and Health Trainers.

What support is available?

The Active@Work team will work with businesses to achieve Good Health: Good Work Charter, and also to provide information on the vast array of services available in the Wigan Borough to help people to lead healthier lifestyles. We will help you decide which level of accreditation your organisation can achieve on the Charter and help you to develop any related policies and initiatives.

We can help train up health champions from within your company to spread the word on the benefits of leading a healthy lifestyle, and to help organise campaigns and challenges that will engage with your employees. For those organisations who struggle to engage their employees in health-related activities, we can offer a limited number of free health checks to raise awareness of individual.

How does my company access the service?

A Workplace Health Advisor can come and visit you at a time convenient for you and your business needs, just phone us on 01942 828587 or e-mail Wes Butler at w.butler@wlct.org to book an appointment, or for more information.

How much does it cost?

The programme is free to all workplaces based in Wigan Borough, or those with an office, shop or factory within the borough.
